SIEBEN, Vernon
July 21, 1961 – May 29, 2023
Mr. Vernon ‘Vern’ Patrick Sieben of Blackfalds, Alberta passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 at the age of 61 years. Vern was born July 21, 1961, at Macklin, Saskatchewan and was the eldest of five children to Norbert and Lorraine Sieben. He grew up on the family farm at Cactus Lake, and attended school in Denzil, where both 4H Clubs were a big part of his younger life. Vern’s career paths included working on the Pioneer Elevator Repair Crew, and then moving into the Oil Patch working on a rig, where his time was cut short due to a rig accident resulting in his work life taking a new direction. His love for motorbikes started along with his career. His Yamaha Street Bike and his dad’s ‘98 Oldsmobile were his mechanical loves throughout his life. To this day, the Oldsmobile remains in his garage. The love and care he pampered it with turned it into an enviable antique which he would proudly display in Classic Car Shows. After Vern returned to school and completed Grade 12, he moved on to obtain his Parts Management Technician Certificate and started a new career with Traction Heavy Duty Parts, where he transferred to Red Deer. He moved to Century Sales, now known as Vallen and then successfully achieved his Safety Management Certification. Vern met Vicki Reid in Red Deer, Alberta and it didn’t take long before they realized they belonged together. Vern, Vicki and her two sons, Adam and Jordan became a ready-made family, and then were surprised when their daughter, Shayden followed shortly afterwards. Shay was ‘his baby’ and he was her ‘Diddy’. Vicki and Vern have lived in Blackfalds for the last twenty-seven years and would’ve celebrated their twenty-ninth Anniversary on June 10, the day of his final viewing. Vern touched so many people’s lives in good ways and was always the first one to offer a helping hand. The family takes comfort knowing he was loved and appreciated by so many people. We all thank you for your overwhelming support and acts of kindness. Vern will be lovingly remembered by his loving partner, Vicki, his children, Adam, Jordan and Shayden, his grandson, Jeffery, his mom, Lorraine, his brothers, Marvin (Karen), Peter (Carolyn) and Glen (Leah). He will also be sadly missed by a circle of friends larger than the Saskatchewan Roughriders Stadium. Vern was predeceased by his father, Norbert and his sister, Myrna. Although there are far too many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and family members to mention, he loved you all. A special mention to Uncle Fred Sieben for being the best Uncle and coffee buddy to Vern for so many years. He has been our rock during this difficult time. A Viewing will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. A Celebration of Vern’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Blackfalds Community Centre, 4810 Womacks Road, Blackfalds, Alberta at 3:00 p.m. In honour of Vern’s love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, we are asking you to dress in your Rider green’s or wear something green. Vern’s family has been overwhelmed by the support it has received from the Lending Cupboard, an organization which offers Medical Aide equipment to anyone, free of charge. Their doors remain open through donations, so we would be honored to have Memorial Donations in Vern’s honor made directly to the Lending Cupboard at www.lendingcupboard.ca.
