Surrounded by the warmth and love of his family, Ven took his final bow at Hospice Peterborough, In Peterborough, Ontario on Friday, August 18, 2023. His passing was one of grace, where he was afforded dignity and stellar care.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, including his partner and wife of over four decades, Margaret (Blair, nee Pennock), his four sons Marvin (Annik), Dane (Suzanne), Albert, and John (Lisa), as well as stepsons Bill Blair (Tracy), Brian Blair (Cyndy), and stepdaughter Nancy Edmondson (Gord). Also survived by his sister Carmen in Florida as well as many nieces and nephews in the UK and USA and predeceased by his four siblings. Ven was loved by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also loved as “Bana” by his step grandchildren.
Born in Linstead, Jamaica in 1929, Ven moved with his family to Canada in 1954. He found his place at Colonial Furniture in Ottawa, where his relentless work ethic saw him rise from the shipping department to the role of CFO. A man of enterprise, Ven was an early investor and former co-owner of Brown’s Cleaners & Tailors in Ottawa.
For over four decades, Ven, or “Eagle Eye” as he was known, was recognized for his unerring integrity and scrupulous attention to detail. Beyond his professional life, Ven’s heart beat for the game of dominoes, a passion he often shared with one of his favourite brothers-in-law, Bill Pennock (Diane).
