Obituary
It is with heavy hearts the family of Velma Grace Smith announces her passing, which occurred on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in French Village, NB, on April 20, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William and Dora (Greer) Gullage and wife of the late Victor Smith.
Velma served as a communications operator in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 15 years. She was a member of the St. Martins Seniors Club. She enjoyed researching genealogy. She liked to play cribbage,bingo, bowling and loved gardening. Her favourite hobbies included sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed birdwatching, her favourite being the hummingbird.
Velma is survived by her daughter Tani Rae Travis (Teresa); grandchildren Timothy and Jennifer; brother Hubert Gullage; sister Marilyn Worden (Larry) and sister-in-law Ina Mensink Gullage and many nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother Gordon Gullage; sisters Eileen Fulton (Dalton), Christina Bradley (Melbourne), and Doris Bradshaw (Frederic); sister-in-law Marion Hawkins (Russell).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Rocmaura Garden and Terrace courts for the compassion and care of Velma during her time there.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the Fundy Chapel. Interment will take place at the Bradshaw Family Cemetery, Orange Hill, N.B. following the service.
