Obituary of Valerie Anne Teed
Valerie Anne Teed (nee Bowditch)
August 16, 1945 – July 25, 2023
It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Valerie Anne Teed (Bowditch), daughter of the late Raymond and Claire Bowditch.
She is survived by her husband George Teed, son Simon Teed (Stephanie), daughter Sarah Teed, sister Kate Hoos (Rick), brother Peter Bowditch (Lynn) and four grandsons Jack, Nicolas, Nate and Peter.
Val was born in Trinidad and lived in England and Canada. After attending a British Montessori school and the Halifax Convent of the Sacred Heart (where she skipped two grades), she graduated from University of King’s College (1965) (BA) and Dalhousie University (1966) (B.Ed.) at the age of 20.
Married in 1968 to George Teed and then two wonderful children came along, Simon and Sarah. She was a major positive influence in their lives.
Val was an intelligent, witty, musical, humorous, energetic and engaging person.
Following graduation, she was a teacher in the NS and NB school systems for many years. She also played and taught piano for many years.
She was a writer, researcher and author of two books: “Uncle CY’s War” and “Mr. Diggle’s Dream”. Val compiled and wrote various Teed/Harrison genealogical publications. The largest undertaking was the writing of “Minote 100 Years”.
She was an enthusiastic partner in “Ancestors NB”. With Sandra Thorne they successfully pieced together family histories for many clients from the Rocky Mountaineer to the Empire Loyalists.
She did “Reads and Writes” for Voice Factory Co. for over 10 years.
Val was heavily involved in two music festivals (Truro and New Brunswick), various town parades and the organizer of the Empty Stocking Fund event in Saint John for 12 years. She was an active member of the Saint John United Empire Loyalist Society and the President of the Rothesay Garden Club.
“Each day in Val’s life was a day well spent.”
She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home (506-634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 2 to 4pm, where a Memorial Service will be held on the morning of Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11am. A reception to follow.
Donations in Valerie’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
