Val Nolan was born, in Estevan SK, on August 31, 1948. She passed away, suddenly, on April 20, 2023, with all of her family by her side.
Mom grew up in Alameda Sk. she graduated high school and went right to work as a Bank Teller at the Royal Bank in Oxbow. She met our dad in 1967, while he was working on the rigs. We still question how that even came about- Dad was a true rigger, and mom, mom was a bit of a “goody two shoes”. However, it worked, and it worked for over 54 years.
In 1973, they packed up and moved to Northern Manitoba, when dad took a job with CFI (Churchill Forest Industries), with his brother-in-law Earl Purdy, in Conlin Lake MB. While dad worked, Mom also worked, helping in the camp kitchen. Mom and dad met many friends during their CFI time, friends that they kept through the years.
In 1977, Kristin was born. For the next 2 years, they continued to to live and work in Conlin Lake. In late 1979, they made the trek to The Pas, when dad was transferred. Shortly after, mom started back as a bank teller at the local Royal Bank.
In 1984, Lana was born. After a short leave, mom went right back to work at the bank, and she worked there until 1998 when their first granddaughter, Sydnie, was born. It was then, that she retired as a bank teller and became a professional Grandma.
In 2010, Cali was born, followed by Karys in 2012. And in 2014 Khail and Dayvis completed her list of grandkids. However, mom had a few “adopted” grandkids, and kids, over the years who she loved unconditionally, as well. She was involved in her kids and her grandkids lives, every single day. There wasn’t much that mom missed for anyone in her life- unless, of course, she couldn’t hear you…which “selectively” happened sometimes! It will be said, that mom lived for her grandchildren, each and every day.
It can also be said that Moms door was always open to anyone, no one was turned away, over the years. If you needed a place to stay, whether it be overnight or for 8 months, you knew you were welcome. And you knew you became part of her family. She was a very giving person, especially to those she loved and cared about.
Mom enjoyed a lot of things, but not as much as she enjoyed her family. From spending summers at Clearwater Lake with the grandkids making memories and friends, to almost every Holiday spent with family and a good heated card game of Guts. Family was everything to mom, and she made sure you knew it.
Mom is survived by her husband Dwight, daughters Kristin and Lana, Her son-in-law Scott, Grandchildren- Sydnie, Cali, Karys, Khail and Dayvis, Brother-in-Law-Earl Purdy, Sister-on-Law- Eleanor Loustel, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her mother Lil and father Butch, her mother and father-in-law, Elenor and Wilfred Nolan, her Brothers, Duane and Garfield, her sisters Diane and Shelagh, her niece Giselle Purdy, and her sister-in-law Elaine Sharratt.
A celebration of life for family and friends of Val will take place at a later time.
If friends and family so desire, we would appreciate donations to Prairie Mountain Health for Virden & Area Palliative Care in memory of Mom. Cheques can be mailed to P.O. Box 400 Virden MB R0M 2C0
