Ulysses’ Obituary
COTTREAU, Ulysses Joseph – It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ulysses, age 86, on September 19th, 2023. He went with unwavering faith to meet his God that he so strongly believed in.
How do you describe a man larger than life to us. Let us try.
He was the most amazing husband to our Mame, Jeanette (Fitzgerald) of 62 years. They went on to have us five children, Angela (Miles) Pitman, Yarmouth; Audrey (Gary) Crosby, Athabasca; Bobby (Nadine) Cottreau, Wedgeport; Cathy (Tim) Schrader, Wedgeport; Shannon (Neil) LeBlanc, Carleton. He was a proud Pépère to 12 grandchildren, Courtney Goodwin, Kayla McGuigan, Ian Pitman, Nadia Muise, Logan Pitman, Jerica Picco, Jasmine Ross, Luke Schrader, Zachery Cottreau, Drew Schrader, Dillon and Nolan LeBlanc. He was also Pépère to great grandchildren, Taylor and Brody Goodwin, Ayden Leet, Landon and Ryker Muise, Keegan and Zoey McGuigan, Oliver Schrader, and Paige Picco. Sister in laws Jennie and Marie.
He had 6 siblings and is survived by Ted (Phyllis), Marie, Billy (Pamela); he was predeceased by parents, Willie and Margaret; brothers, Bobby and wife, Pauline; Edwin, and Jean.
Dad was a proud Acadian, was a lifelong volunteer of his community of Wedgeport. He was a board member for the Tuna Museum for many years, Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. He was always up for helping anyone in need.
He was a hard worker and passed that work ethic to our family. Dad and Mame gave us a place in the summer at our camp to make many memories and a place to be together. He built and helped repair ours and our children’s homes. We will have a huge void in our family as we continue our journey of life. If there is one thing, he taught us is that family is something one can’t replace. He gave us a great life and we couldn’t have asked for a better father. He supported us when we needed it and gave us guidance when we asked for it.
We promise Dad that we will try to take care of Mame like you did, however you will be a tough act to follow.
Love you much!
We also want to thank Dr. Webster for his great care and the medical staff on 3 East. God Bless.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. A funeral Mass will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, September 25th, 2023 at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport. A burial will take place after the mass in the Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund, Ecole Wedgeport Breakfast Program or the Canadian Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia.
