Obituary
Mieke, Treena
1949-2023
It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of Treena Emily Mielke, our beautiful, devoted mother, grandmother, wife and friend to all whose lives she touched.
She left us on January 1, 2023 after a short and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her children, husband and good friend, Harold Fisher.
She was vibrant, active and young at 73. Treena was born in Eckville, Alberta to Roy and Rosie Warden, the sixth of seven children, and raised in Condor Alberta. In 1969 she was married to Peter Mielke and became a lovingly devoted mother to her three children: Devin (Heather), Darcie (Keith) and Jill (Cameron) but her greatest and most treasured achievement are her six grandchildren: Emilie, Jackson, Kallie, Ben, Dylan and Jacob.
Treena spent the last 36 years writing for Central Alberta newspapers and magazines. She was honored with many awards for her writing. She inspired countless people as she shared her uplifting view of the world in her weekly column. Her large following of readers throughout Central Alberta connected to her positive and funny messages about working, raising children, enjoying grandchildren and generally living every moment to the fullest.
Treena had an uncanny ability to see the bright side and find the light in even the darkest of situations. Treena loved music, flowers and all things beautiful. Her hospitality and unmatched generosity made her home a place where anyone could and did drop in anytime for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, as the occasion called for. She was a sports enthusiast and the loudest cheering section for her grandchildren at the ice rinks, ball diamonds and gymnastics floor. Treena was a beautiful example of how to live each day in gratitude and she will be so dearly missed.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 8 at 2 pm at St. Leonard’s church in Red Deer.
Donations can be made to the Red Deer Cancer Center or The MS Society.
