Obituary
PORTER, Thelma Ruth
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother and great grandmother Thelma (Stew) Porter, on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. She was in her 99th year.
Thelma was born and raised in Beeton Ontario where she married Jim Porter (deceased) and with whom she had four children: Glenn Porter (Carol), Wendy Greason (Denny), Dixie Mark (Bob), and Debbie Norman (Leo).
In 1955 Thelma and Jim set off from Beeton on their great adventure to the “wilds” of northern Ontario where they owned and operated a tourist resort on the south shore of Lake Nipissing for 20 years. They then retired to Kearney Ontario where they spent many years enjoying the great outdoors fishing and snowmobiling in Algonquin Park. Thelma and Jim were both active in the Lions Club, the Eastern Star and Masons. They eventually moved back to the North Bay area and enjoyed many more years’ at their cottage on Reuben Lake north of North Bay.
Thelma was blessed with two great loves of her life. After Jim’s passing she met our stepdad Earl Graham (deceased). They were both active in the North Bay Lions Club where Thelma was the 1st woman president, taking office when she was well into her eighties.
Thelma is survived by dear sisters Erla McCullough and Glenna Brown and dear brothers Karl Stewart (Jan) and Barry Stewart (Cheryl). She is predeceased by Clifford, Verl, Joyce, Bernice, Phyllis and Yvonne.
She was the proud grandmother to Jordanna Porter, Jenny Vandrie, Scott Brownlee, Chris Brownlee, Amanda Lariviere, Terry McInnes, Lynn McInnes, Leah Norman and Shawn Norman.
She was amazing GG (great grandmother) to Carson, Ruby, Hudson, Kaya, Katelyn, Samantha, April and Abigail, Carlene, Cloe, Hannah, and soon to arrive baby girl Norman-Hughes.
As per her wishes she will be cremated and a memorial visitation will take place at Hillside Funeral Services on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A celebration of life will follow at 3pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind will be greatly acknowledged by her family.
Goodbye and rest in peace, Mom. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will live on forever in our hearts and of those who knew and loved you.
