Terry Gilbert Haynes
1956-2023
Terry Gilbert Haynes
September 18, 1956 -April 3,
2023
66 Years Old
It is with loving hearts that the family of Terry Haynes
announces his passing, which occurred on Monday April 3, 2023 at the
Dr. Everett Chalmer Hospital in Fredericton NB.
Born in Kentville NS on September 18, 1956, he was the eldest
son of the late James “Jim” Haynes.
Dad is survived by his mother Jean (Hogan) Haynes of Clare
NS, and his wife of 39 years, Linda (Dembenski) Haynes of
Geary, NB, his daughter, Krista Haynes of Breadalbane NB, his son Lee
Haynes of Geary NB. Two grandchildren, Asher and Isla, his brothers
Dale Haynes of Grande Prairie, AB, Jamie (Georgina) Haynes of Halifax,
NS, his niece and nephew and many aunts, uncles and
cousins.
An Electrician by trade for 35 years, he worked most of his
career in Oromocto NB and at CFB Gagetown as an Electrical Foreman,
retiring from there in 2017.
Growing up Dad enjoyed many sports such as Lacrosse and
Taekwondo, which he got to relive through stories relayed to his
grandson Asher.
When Dad was well he was an avid hunter and fisherman and
always loved being outside. Dad and his best friend Marcel McLaughlin
spent many a day in the great outdoors enjoying nature.
I know many of you reading this remember Dad for his long
long hair, but did you know he donated all of that hair to wigs for
cancer, he looked tough on the outside but had a huge
heart.
His greatest joy was from spending time with his
grandchildren, Asher and Isla, from putting them to sleep by driving
the lawn mower around the yard numerous times, to watching them play
in a bounce house for hours, and always spoiling them by slipping them
money when he thought no one was watching.
I remember Dad as an animal rescuer of sorts, always bringing
home unwanted or neglected pets, from a black rabbit with an attitude
to a giant turtle that was found on the base, and thus turning our
front yard into a turtles playground, we will never forget his
“baby” Babe the six foot python, who he took out on many
excursions which always raised many eyebrows, to dads
pleasure, Babe the python was definitely one of his favourites and we
can’t forget the day that he brought home a pink toe tarantula with no
idea how to care for a tarantula but in Dads words “it needed a
good home!” and then there was the bald eagle rescue, somehow Dad
and Marcel spotted this poor injured eagle, on the ground and way off
in the distance, not sure what kind of animal they were seeing but it
did not matter to them because it needed help and they were determined
to help it, no fear of a very large bird of prey, it was hurt and all
that mattered to them was helping the poor bird.
Dad loved motorcycles, something he shared his love for with
his son Lee. Dad had many motorcycles over the years, but he
was most proud of his 2001 Harley Davidson Electa Glide
Trike. Dad was also a founding member of the Simple Men’s
Motorcycle Club, but due to heath issues he was not able to stay with
the club as long as he would have liked, but always thought of the men
as his fellow brothers.
Dad’s garage “man cave” was where you
would find him most days and everyone was always welcomed with open
arms, he liked to host but in his own way. He did not want to miss
anyone coming by, so he rigged up the doorbell so that it made the
lights flash so even when his music was very loud (which was often) he
still knew when company was at the door.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Marcel for
always being there for dad, on the good days and the bad. Dad was very
lucky to have such an amazing friend all the way till the
end.
Cremation will take place under the care of St. George
Funeral Home (506-755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. There
will be no ceremonial services as per Dad’s
request.
Should any donations be considered, please make them to the
Oromocto SPCA.
