On the evening of September 13, 2023, at 6:50 pm, after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s, Terrence James Knuckle peacefully departed this world at Peterborough Regional Hospital due to complications arising from COVID-19 and pneumonia. Terry would have celebrated his 88th birthday next month.
Terry’s journey began in Windsor, Ontario, where he was born to Philip and Agnes Knuckle as the 2nd of three children. Here, he started his pursuit of higher education, married his beloved Valda in 1963, welcomed three children into their lives, and took his first his career role at Green Giant. In 1980, he moved his family to Markham, working for Pillsbury, then relocated to Peterborough where he built his home overlooking the Otonabee River and worked for Westclox for 21 years, where he finished out his career as VP of Marketing and Sales. Over the course of his career, he earned his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce (with honours), degree in Theology (cum laude) and, in night school, worked toward completion of his MBA. He was a lover of art, classical music, and gardening, and was a devoted family man who led quietly and humbly by example.
Terry’s faith was an integral part of his life, and was a devoted member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church with a strong commitment to charitable causes, like St. Vincent de Paul, among many others. We will sorely miss his wisdom, selflessness, enthusiasm for life, unwavering positivity, kindness, compassion, and impeccable integrity.
Though we grieve the loss of an extraordinary human being, Heaven has gained a radiant and beautiful soul. Terry leaves behind his devoted wife Valda, three children, Mary Anne (Dan), Mark (Kristen), Matthew (Simone), and a legacy of seven grandchildren: Tori (Matt), Katherine (Zach), Elizabeth (Dre), Aurora, Gabriel, Kyle, and Kaiden, as well as his sister Carol and family, late brother Larry’s family, as well as the families of late sister and brother-in laws Shirley and Rick.
We extend our gratitude to Dr. Krause and the remarkable nurses at Peterborough Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and support during Terry’s final days. A mass in his name will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 23 at St. Anne’s Catholic church in Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Peterborough or Saint Vincent de Paul.
