Obituary
It is with heavy hearts the family of Sylvia Heather Royal (Heather) announces her passing, which occurred on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Heather was a caring mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Henriette (McDonald) Byers and wife of the late Robert Frederick Donald Royal.
Heather is survived by her son Bryan Lockhart (Laura); daughter Katherine Shannon (Chris); stepson Michael Royal (Susan); stepdaughter Monica Royal (Tausha); grandchildren Victoria, Olivia, Kate, Sam, Jordan, Ben and great grandchildren Reagan and Piper.
After graduating from high school, Heather became an LPN, then turned in her uniform and dedicated many years of her life volunteering in the community. Through her volunteering career Heather was a member and past president of Saint John Regional Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Committee Chair of the 1999 World Men’s Curling Championship and past president of the Riverside Ladies Association and long-time member. Heather was also a past board member of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, a role she dedicated many hours to and enjoyed very much.
Anyone who knew Heather knows she had a zest for life, she loved to have fun and entertain. She had a passion for cooking, there was nothing better than trying a new recipe. She loved painting and it was a great pastime of hers. Heather always had a quick joke, making people laugh and had a special knack for story telling. More than anything though, she loved spending time with her family, her grandchildren brought her so much joy and there was nothing more important than being together.
Arrangements are under the care of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). In lieu of a funeral the family will be holding a celebration of life on August 10, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Riverside Country Club. Please join the family during this time to celebrate Heather’s memory.
