In Celebration of
Suzanne Marie Mlekuz (Nee Stewart)
February 27, 1944 –
September 8, 2023
It is with a broken heart that I announce the passing of my mother Suzanne. Predeceased by her parents Constance and Roland Stewart, her brother Scott Stewart, and her husband Doug Rolheiser. She will be fondly remembered by my dad Mark Mlekuz as well as his brothers and sisters. She was a loving nana to my daughter Madison and she more than cherished her relationship with her very close circle of friends.
What is there to say about a woman who touched so many of us? In short … absolutely irreplaceable. A wise trusted, true friend, and loving mother who wasn’t known to hold back when asked her opinion (often we didn’t have to ask). A lifelong community worker, a past president of the Gardens Club of Hamilton. Actually, a past president of just about everything. A highly respected retired member of the life insurance industry where her legacy was one of excellence and continued to maintain relationships with many of those careers, she helped shape. Especially, my mom was proud to be the first graduate of the Rick Giuliani School of Management. Together at Great West Life for 39 years as one of, if not, the best management teams in the entire industry! They continued to be lifelong friends and my mom always said, “Mr. Giuliani kept her safely tucked in his pocket giving her to grow and mature”. The GWL office was like another family to me.
You cannot mention my mother without mentioning her home and garden which she willingly shared with friends and neighbors. Obviously, the garden was her true passion. Thank you, Brad, for putting up with her all of those years… I can’t even imagine. You and your company Shades of Summer held a special place in her heart. Tom Wilkes and son took over where you left off… Let’s be honest “The Garden Warden” would expect nothing less. More important, as long as I continued to find her there … all was well.
Lastly, when she believed, we all believed and many of us slept a little better knowing she was in our corner. So many of you loved and respected her… How lucky am I to call her mom. She was strong of mind, strong of will, and gentle of heart. She handled responsibility with grace and ease. Her sense of what was right backed by her integrity was beyond question. She died as she lived… on her own terms. She was the real deal; she was my everything.
At her request, she has been cremated. There will be a celebration of life on a Sunday (details to be posted at a later date). However, it will be held at the “Rock Gardens” at the RBG, Burlington. Please arrive with you Suzanne stories as we will be celebrating her life. You can count on her planning the entire event… otherwise it wouldn’t have been done right.
She continued to be the main character, to the end, in her own life story.
Carpe Diem Mommy, I Love You More Than Life Itself.
-Scott
