Obituary of Stephen John Peddle
April 17, 1950 – Badger, Newfoundland
March 24, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with much sadness that Steve’s family announces his sudden passing on March 24, 2023 in Calgary, AB, at the age of 72 years.
Steve’s story began in the town of Badger, Central Newfoundland on April 17, 1950. He was the second of six children born to Kathleen and Bernard Peddle.
Steve’s childhood years were spent in Lewisporte, La Scie, and Kelligrews; he attended Trade School in Corner Brook. He married Thelma (nee Burton), his wife of 51 years, and together they had four children.
In 1976 Steve took employment in Northern Alberta, and a year later he was employed by Syncrude Canada, where he worked for 32 years. Following retirement, Steve and Thelma spent seven years in Newfoundland and then returned to Alberta making Calgary, AB, their home.
Steve had a strong sense of community involvement. For many years he was involved with the Food Bank in Fort McMurray, AB. In retirement, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Carbonear, NL, as well as the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook, AB.
The simple things of life gave Steve much enjoyment. He loved gardening, and blueberry picking in Newfoundland was one of his favourite activities, or just sitting around the fire pit with his own thoughts. He had cherished memories of fishing trips in Northern Alberta, and golf trips in Arizona, USA, with workmates who had become like family.
Steve’s quiet, “man of few words” disposition will be forever missed by Thelma, along with his children Nicole (Chris) of Sherwood Park, AB, Erica (Marcus) of Calgary, AB, Adam (Sarah) of Calgary, AB, Aaron (Janine) of Fort McMurray, AB; His grandchildren Noah Beach, Kaylee Peddle, and Hudson Peddle; each had a piece of his heart. Steve leaves behind three sisters Betty (Stan) Eason, Ann (Reg) Stone, and Debbie (Wayne) MacKinnon; along with a very special uncle, Vince Walsh.
Steve was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Kathleen Peddle, along with his sister Linda, and brother Vince.
