Obituary
It is with very deep sadness we announce the passing of Stanley Thomas Parsons on Friday, Feb 3, 2023, at the age of 74 years. Known to all as Tommy, he was born on March 5, 1948, in Rose Blanche, NL and resided in Massey Drive. To sum up the life of a dad, a husband, a brother, and a friend like Tommy is a near impossible task.
Tommy worked as a Stationary Engineer (2nd class) for the Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Mill for most of his career. Tommy was a dedicated, loyal, and hard working employee. During his spare time Tommy was an avid fisherman, hunter, boater and camper. He spent many happy hours in nature, enjoying the beauty and peace it offered. Barachois Pond Provincial Park was like a second home for Tommy, his loving wife Shirley and their many friends and family members. During the winter, Tommy loved exploring the scenic places of Western Newfoundland via snowmobile with his wife and friends. In Spring, Tommy could be found hauling firewood and readying his RV for the park. In the summer you would often find Tommy on a salmon river, lounging in his boat or sitting around a campfire. In the fall you would find Tommy looking for his moose in the great outdoors. Throughout the years, Tommy was an avid supporter of his wife Shirley and her many crafts and hobbies.
In addition to his love of the outdoors, Tommy was an active member of the Massey Drive community. He served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years, and was a member of the recreation committee for numerous years. Tommy was also a proud town council member and happily worked to make his community a better place for all its residents.
Tommy was popular with children and adults, alike. Known affectionately as uncle TomBall, he had a special place in his heart for all children. It was common to see both Tommy and any child in his presence laugh until tears would flow down their faces. His many nieces and nephews will remember him for his numerous jokes and acts such as pretending to crack an egg on their head. With adults, Tommy loved to share a conversation, a good joke, a fireside chat, fish for salmon, hunt, or engage in a good game of table tennis or darts. Tommy was famous for many things and certainly for his love of sweets. He had a sweet tooth that was known to all who knew him, and he especially loved ice cream, chocolate bars, and his morning peanut butter toast. He was often heard saying, “I can’t wait to get up in the morning to enjoy my breakfast.”
Tommy was predeceased by his loving parents Wilson Parsons (1992) and Elizabeth Parsons (nee: Parsons (2012), and his brother Donald Wilson Parsons (1947).
Tommy is survived by the love of his life Shirley (nee: Troy), to whom he was married for almost 50 years; his son Corey of Ottawa; and his grandchildren Morgan and Thane, both of Ottawa.
Tommy leaves behind a large family of brothers and sisters to remember him – Chesley (Rosalind) of Corner Brook, Joyce (Kevin) Hatcher of Halifax, Rosanna (Harold) Rose of Paradise, Gerald (Veronica) of Quispamsis, Dennis (Joanne) of Dartmouth, Terry (Sharon) of Labrador City, Ruby (Stan) McNeil of Fredericton, Violet (Randy) Parsons-Pack of Fredericton. In addition, he leaves to mourn many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws of the Troy family, along with nieces, nephews, and many more family members of both the Troy and Parsons Families. Tommy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him – of which there are many.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer so family and friends from far and near can all gather to remember Tommy and share their memories of a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador alzheimer.ca/nl/en/take-action/donate.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to friends, family and neighbors, especially Jim and Mary Earle and Chesley and Rosalind Parsons, for their generous and much needed support.
