Obituary of Stan Cernanec
Cernanec: Stan –
After a lengthy illness, Stan Cernanec passed peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Friday, August 25, 2023, knowing he was loved.
Born in Chatham Township to the late John and Mary (nee Harant) Cernanec on October 18, 1937.
He is survived by Carole, his wife of 35 years, his son John Cernanec and granddaughter Brianna Cernanec (Greg Simpson), son Scott and Debbie Cernanec and grandchildren Jordan and Chloe Cernanec, son David Cernanec (Kelly Pritchard), daughter Melanie Cernanec-Richer and Dan Richer, and grandchildren Edie Cernanec and Darko Richer, and step-daughter Kelly Gorman and grandchildren Alex and Samantha Gorman.
He is also survived by his brother Steve Cernanec (Pat), sisters Cecile Wortner (late George), Anne Manak and Mary Lutzer (Cliff). Predeceased by infant brother Andrew.
Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He loved his family.
Stan lived in Chatham his entire life. He was born and raised on the farm in Chatham Township. He enjoyed his time working on the farm with his parents and siblings before moving on to work for the Dominion grocery chain. From there, he followed his dream of opening up his own business in 1968, the now well known “Stan’s Market”. Stan grew it from a humble variety store to a farm-to-table produce store, preferring to support the local farmers. His initiative led to the sale of fruit baskets and flower arrangements.
Over the years, Stan had employed over 1,000 employees. He instilled a hard work ethic and commitment to quality, hard work and customer service.
When Stan wasn’t fulfilling his commitments at the store, he could often be found socializing with his lifelong friends, golfing, travelling or spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, PSW’s and all support staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for their care of Stan during this difficult time.
As per Stan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00pm. A Private Family Funeral will be held at a later date.
Donations made in memory of Stan to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
