Obituary for
Stacey MacDonald
MacDonald, Stacey Harold – Age 84, Onslow, went home to be with his Lord on April 27, 2023, with his nephew, Randall MacDonald by his side. Stacey was the son of the late Daniel and Charlotte (Dykens) MacDonald, Westchester, NS.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Rushton) MacDonald and devoted son, Stephen (Nicole) MacDonald (New Glasgow). Stacey leaves to mourn sister, Bessie MacMeekin, (Truro); brothers, Rod (Esther) MacDonald (Onslow) and Ron (Shirley) MacDonald (Westchester).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Doris (Westchester); brothers, Danny MacDonald (Brookfield), Ken MacDonald (Harmony), Deverne MacDonald (Westchester), Payson MacDonald (Moncton) and sister, Edith MacDonald in infancy.
Survived by many nieces and nephews, in-laws, Audrey MacDonald (Brookfield) Dorothy MacDonald (Enfield) and Sharon MacDonald (Moncton).
Stacey owned and operated MacDonald’s Saw Repair for a total of 43 years, having started his business in Oxford before moving to Onslow. He attended Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, NB where he received his training to work on mill saws. Stacey was well known to many mill operators in NS, NB, PEI and as far away as Labrador.
Working on mill saws was his delight, it was an art of its own. Besides working on mill saws, he did skate sharpening and whatever needed sharpening, he did it.
Stacey was a very talented man, honest along with being a hard worker. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and caring for his property. He was particular in whatever he did. To walk into his shop, you could easily see that every tool had its place and was always put back when he finished using it.
Stacey built a hunting camp in Westchester, where he liked to go and spend a few days with his son, Stephen and his nephews. He was a great talker and could tell many stories from years gone by. Customers enjoyed talking to him and listening to his stories.
Stacey was an adherent of Connection Wesleyan Church, Truro. Thanks to everyone for the support given to Stacey during his brief illness. Special thanks to his nephew, Randall MacDonald for all of his help in so many ways, including his weekly home visits and nightly hospital visits.
Also, thanks to the VON who came to the home and to Palliative Care for their kindness shown to Stacey and family during his time in the hospital. You will always be remembered.
Thanks to Pastor Luke Anderson for his concerns and visits.
Donations may be made to Eagle Hill Cemetery or the CEHHC Palliative Care unit.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd from 1pm until time of service at 2pm both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS.
