Sonja Lovrics passed away on September 22, 2023 with family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late John “Jançsi” Lovrics and predeceased by her younger brother, Roger Lobe.
Sonja was loved by her children, Krista (Rob), Roger, Nicole (Craig) and always a proud Gramma to her six grandchildren: Xavier, Rowan, Alexandria, Avie, Charli, Silkie.
Sonja was known as “Sophie” to many of her longtime friends and to Goddauggter Mairi M.R. Best (Sudbury, ON).
Sonja was born in Toronto where she attended Allenby Public School. After highschool, she became a teacher with the Toronto School Board (and later taught at Admiral Collingwood P.S.). In Toronto, she was recognized for her contribution to the arts and had a gift for helping students through special education.
After her husband died, she raised her young children as a single mother in Collingwood and was deeply committed to providing them with every opportunity possible. Her strength and determination, as well as her gift for helping others in need, will always be remembered.
Sonja’s greatest joy through recent years was her extensive music collection, second to none; and, she was a collector of fine art and antiques for many years.
Sonja shared comforting words of wisdom the week before she died and she wanted everyone to know that she lived a good life. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
