In loving memory of Shirley Anne Waechter (nee Weber), who fell asleep peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on March 26th at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton, in her 76th year. Dearly, beloved, wife of the late John Fortney and dear Mom of Lisa Racicot (Ray), Tammy Laurin (Scott) and Michelle Comello (Mike), and precious Grandma of Jessica (Brad), Cody, Bree, Mitchell, Matthew, Nella and Grace. Great Gramma (GG) to Maverick and Juliette. Much loved sister of Mary, Verna, Don, Ron and Joyce, and special Aunty to many nieces and nephews. She will be immensely missed by extended family and friends who have been sharing wonderful memories and condolences.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents Elmer and Blanche Weber, sister Verna Denney, brother Ron Weber and husband John Fortney.
Shirley grew up on a farm near Belmore and developed a love for the outdoors at an early age. She had an abundant and special love for friends and family. She worked as an Office Manager for DAC Checker Produce for 30 years. Throughout her life, Shirley developed and nurtured her love of travel. Some of her favourite excursions included trips to Europe, Alaska, Portugal and Mexico. Shirley took full advantage of every opportunity to sample the local cuisines, and select beer and wines! In retirement, she continued to travel and meet with her many friends and family members for a game of Pickleball or a round of golf. She continued to make many new friends in retirement, and, just as she had throughout her life, held them very near to her heart. She reveled in taking smaller days trips as well, oftentimes on her bike. She loved to visit new golf courses and their restaurants and was always up for a new adventure or experience. She was the founder of the ‘Probus Golf Group’, where she enjoyed being a part of many different outings and participating in various activities. She maintained beautiful gardens surrounding her home where she played, laughed and thoroughly took joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Volunteering at the food bank allowed her to better appreciate, and give thanks, for all the wonderful things and family she had.
To honour Shirley’s wishes, a Celebration Of Life will be held at the ‘Knights of Columbus’ hall (between Walkerton and Mildmay – 2042 1658 Hwy 9 Mildmay, ON) on April 15, 2023 from 1-4 with memories of Shirley being shared at 2:30.
