Obituary For Shirley Marie (Madigan) Kyle
April 10th, 1955 – June 18th, 2023
Shirley, the apple of everyone’s eye, the life of the party has left her earthy bonds. Shirley passed at home with her husband and beloved daughters by her side.
Shirley was born in Smithers BC, and raised in Telkwa where she had many memories and adventures. She lived up on the hill and would often visit her grandmother in town. She had a horse named Jock that she explored the countryside with- he was quick and fast on his feet. Shirley grew up with her brothers Allen, Mike, and her sister Margaret. She got her love of “hot” and fast cars from her brother Allen, and her wild and free side from her sister “Marg” as Shirley called her. Mike was quiet- he was her steady Eddie. Shirley’s parents Francis and Victoria divorced was she was young, they both loved her dearly, and would and did do anything for her.
Her entire family thought the world of her and adored her vivaciousness and kindred spirit.
After graduating high school Shirley attended college in Prince George. She eventually made her way to the Yukon and found employment at Whitepass. While in Whitehorse she met her husband Enos, and they ventured around the Yukon together before they settled down in Atlin, where they had 2 beautiful girls, Jody and Kerry. She loved the natural beauty and ruggedness of the land, but that was not enough to keep her there. They made the decision to move the family to Terrace where she raised her girls and got a part time job working with special needs children in the school. She was passionate about helping those kids and was able to connect with them in a way no one else could. Shirley and her girls made unforgettable memories at Ferry Island swimming in the water, playing in the sand, and watching the tadpoles grow into frogs. Shirley encouraged her girls to follow their dreams of owning horses and helped them achieve those dreams. She took great pride in her girls and took the opportunity to tell people how proud she was of them whenever she could.
Once Shirley’s girls left home, she went back to college to pursue her passion for cooking and became a chef. After graduating Shirley and the rest of the family followed her oldest daughter Jody to Grande Prairie where she was blessed with 3 beautiful grandchildren: Wade, Kaylee, and Brady. She was there for them every step of the way. She spent time with them playing at the park and baking with them, and she would watch them play for hours and never tired of it. She was the proudest grandmother ever, and never turned down the chance to spend time with them.
After settling into her new home in Grande Prairie, Shirley put her skills to use as a chef at the Trumpeter Hotel, where she made lifelong friendships and connections while working there.
Shirley’s kind heart and generous spirit always attracted her to volunteering, rain or shine she would be out in Terrace with her girls by her side, knocking on doors for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Naturally, when she moved to Grande Prairie, Shirley made her ways to Pards, where she was able to combine her love of horses and volunteering.
Shirley lived for her girls, and her grandchildren. They were her world. If you were ever in her presence, even for just a short time, you knew that. You would also know she was a kind, patient, resilient fun-loving woman. She was able to see the best in everyone. She not only saw it, but she also had the confidence to let you know that she saw it. One of her favorite sayings was “Looking Good Girl”.
With great love comes great sadness, grief, and sorrow. Shirley with be truly missed by all that knew her.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Enos Kyle; daughters Jody (Kyle) Chapman and Kerry Kyle; grandsons Wade Chapman and Brady Chapman; granddaughter Kaylee Chapman; sister Margaret Black; and nieces and nephew, Tanis Forgues, Tracy Zandee, Lynne How, Terry VanDerMark, and Jamie Black.
She is predeceased by her father, Francis David Madigan; mother Victoria Kathleen (Malkow) Madigan; brothers Mike Madigan and Allen Madigan; and nephew Glen Madigan.
A Celebration of life will be held later this summer in Grande Prairie, AB. A date has not been set yet, but please contact Kerry Kyle for more information at 780-897-4989.
