Shirley “Dianne” Jackson
1942-2023
Shirley
“Dianne” Jackson
September
9, 1942 – March 21, 2023.
It is
with heavy hearts that we announce her peaceful passing while at the
Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton, with her husband,
daughter and oldest grandson by her side. Born in Berwick, Kings Co.,
she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Bessie Taylor of
Berwick.
Dianne
was a graduate of Central Kings Rural High School, Mack Business
College and studied education at Acadia University to become a
teacher. Later, and following the successful completion of her
program, she decided that “a career in teaching” was
not for her. She then went on to use her secretarial skills in the
business world at T.P. Calkin Ltd. in Kentville, managed a group home
for the disabled in Wolfville, supervised a homemaker’s
service in Kings County, was office manager for Eastern Protein Foods
in Kentville and then ventured into the insurance industry to become a
secretary/insurance agent on staff with Merriam Insurance of New
Minas, eventually leading to her
retirement.
Dianne
was a fun loving and mischievous person usually with a
“twinkle in her eye” who loved life and being with
her family and friends. Music was always an important part of her life
both in singing with her barbershop chorus and playing her accordion
for campfire sing-a-longs or various other fun gatherings. At the same
time, she was very modest about her talents but was gifted in her
skills as a choreographer and loved working with the Barbershop
choruses leading up to shows and
contests.
Her
family was so important to her, and she loved spending time with them.
Her home was always open to those outside the family who were
“in need” and there were a few along the
way.
She is
survived by her loving husband Perry of 60 years, her daughter, Lesley
(Malcolm) Stevens, son, Steven (Johanna Nickerson), grandsons,
McKenzie Miedema, Matthew Miedema, Evan Stevens, Keegan Stevens, and
granddaughter, Jenna Jackson (all living locally); as well as her only
sister, Janet MacInnes of Halifax, and her children, Christie MacInnes
of Bloomfield, NJ, and Craig MacInnes of Edmonton,
Alta.
The
family would like to extend a sincere thank you for the services of
the VON staff who provided home care and a special thank you to the
staff of the Mayflower Unit of the Soldier’s Memorial
Hospital for their compassionate and loving care over the past six
months while Dianne was a patient there.
In lieu
of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society
or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday,
April 15 in Kentville United Baptist Church with a reception to
follow. Rev. Dr. David Bielby officiating. For those unable to attend,
a livestream will be available at the time of the service. Interment
will take place in the Saint Mary’s Anglican Church
Cemetery, Auburn, at a later date. To view the livestream, and for
