Obituary
Shirley Anne Symes, 75, of Moncton, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 16, 2023 at The Moncton Hospital following surgery. Shirley was born on Sept. 21, 1947 in Charlottetown, PEI. She was the daughter of the late James and Rita (Gallant) Griffin. She was also predeceased by her brother, Steven Griffin.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Cecil Symes; her son, Dr. Brent Symes (Sarah), Edmonton, AB; her daughter, Kathryn Champion (Robert), St. Louis, MO; her step daughter, Sandra Gillis-Saudin (Anwar), Mississauga, ON; her grandchildren: Suzette, Charlize, Laura, Alyson, Shadia, Faisal, and Sabrina, and three great-grandchildren; her brothers, Edward (Jeanette), Quispamsis, NB, and Allan (Shirley), Lower Sackville, NS; her sister, Cynthia Noel, Riverview, NB; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Shirley loved her family dearly. She was a prayer warrior and prayed for them and many others daily through the years. She loved bowling, badminton, ping pong, smelt fishing, and trout and bass fishing. She loved to play Skip-Bo with her sister, Cindy, whom she loved dearly. She loved making pickles, knitting, needlework, quilting, feeding her many wild birds, working in the garden, and caring for her house plants. She was well-respected in the community and in her church, and she made many friends with her peaceful ways and kind words while running her beauty salons for over 55 years.
A Service to Celebrate and Honour Shirley’s Life will be held from Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road Moncton on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment to be held in Bryant’s Corner Cemetery, Emerson Road, Kent Co., NB.
