Theresa Ruigrok
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Theresa Ruigrok (nee Kerssens) peacefully at Edgewater Gardens on February 15, 2023 in her 85th year. She was born in Nederhorst d.Berg, Netherlands and moved to Assendelft, Netherlands when she was 10 years old. She first visited Canada in 1963 to be her sister, Margaret’s Maid of Honour and it was at that time that she met her future husband. One year later, she emigrated to Canada and was married to Cornelius (Neil) Ruigrok in 1965. Together they farmed and created a family in Canborough, Ontario. Theresa is predeceased by her husband Neil (March 2020) and lovingly remembered by her children Ron (Melanie), Paul (Leslie), Nicoline (Kirk), Marc (Melinda) and Wendy (late Tim) and is the cherished Oma to Matthew & Kelly; Kevin, Aaron & Alex; Neil, Jeffery & Colin; Rachel, Emily & Joshua; Devon & Fynn. She also played a quiet but important role as Aunt Theresa to Carl (Tam), Ed (Saskia) and Roger (Tam) and their families.
She is predeceased by her parents Catharina and Hendrikus Kerssens. Beloved sister to the late Jaap (late Cornelia), late Lou (late Adrianna), late Nicolaas, late Rie (late Theo), Margaret (late Frank), Annie (late Gys), Joop (late Willem), Alie (late Nicolaas) and Tini. Her family was important to her and she maintained family ties to those in Canada and the Netherlands. Beloved sister-in-law to the late Peter, late Nic, late Frank, late Annie, late Ted, late Agaat, late Mien, late Josien, late Sjaan, Kathy, Toos, late Bill, Nellie and late Bert. Other close extended family members also include Josephine (“Joey”) Ruigrok and Corrie Bennemeer. Theresa was kind and patient and well regarded in the community and the St. Stephen’s Parish and also to long time friend Wayne Nymatato and family and Chris Verleun. We would like to extend a special thanks to all of the support and care received from Edgewater Gardens over the past year. Their kindness and care has been exceptional.
A short visitation will be held prior to the funeral mass from 10:30-11am on Monday February 20th. The funeral mass will follow immediately. Burial to follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to join us for a gathering at St. Stephen’s Parish Hall after burial.
