Roy’s Obituary
It is with great sadness the family of Roy Laing announce his passing on Sunday, May 21st,2023 at The Bonne Bay health Centre, Norris Point at the age of 85 years.
He will be sadly missed by his girlfriend Bessie Upwards. His children; Sam (Brenda), Darlene (Ron), Pauline (Ronald), Walter (special friend Kayla), Roy (Luz) and Michael (Barbie), Grandchildren; Josh, Joey, Andrew, Matthew, Nathaneal, Jeremy, Mikey, Kaitlyn (Christian), William, Janine, Zane, Sarah, Wendy, Andrea, German, Travis, Tray, Tanyalee and 15 great grandchildren. Siblings; Ira (Marjorie), Vera (Wilson), Alice, Irene (Land), Iris (Milton), Dora (Koylie), Cora (Billy) and Jessie (Bob). Also left to mourn are numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends.
Roy was predeceased by his wife Johanna, parents Walter and Edith, parents-in-law Samuel and Maude Hillyard. 2 infant grandchildren and his brothers; Clarence, Don (Agnes), Melvin and Ivan (Edith).
Roy was born in Norris Point on May 8th,1938 where he lived all his life. It was there he met and married his wife Johanna and together they raised a family. He will be remembered by the community and everyone with whom he met or worked with over the years in the fishery, the lumber woods and in the hospital. Dad also had a career as a truck driver for more than 30 years.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Bonne Bay Health Center, Norris Point for the care dad received during his weeks in their care. Also to the nurses and doctors of Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook for his few days there.
With loving memories you will always be in our hearts.
The visitation will be held on Friday May 26th,2023 from the hours of 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Norris Point. Also where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27th,2023 at 2 pm with Rev. Green officiating, interment will follow at the family plot. For those unable to attend the funeral service it may be viewed live through our face book page at parsons funeral home (deer lake).
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel 63 North Main St., Deer Lake.
