HAMMER, Ronald Theodore, 84, of Tavistock, passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday, July 13, 2023. He was born in Wilmot Township, Waterloo County on April 2, 1939 a son of the late Edward and Olga (Wagner) Hammer.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Kaufman) Hammer, whom he married at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, East Zorra on September 17, 1965; three sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and Debbie Hammer, Paul and Lynnette Hammer, Bradley and Jo-Ann Hammer; seven grandchildren, Brittany and Peter Szczeskiewicz, Brendan Hammer, Carson Hammer (Samantha Wilfong), Colin Hammer (Kaley Hughes), Madelyn Hammer, Isaac Hammer (Laura Wilson), Alex Hammer; sister-in-law, Margaruite Kaufman.
He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Dorothy Heipel; his sister and brother-in-law, Lourraine and Aden Brubacher; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lorne and Margaret Kaufman; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Kaufman.
Ron was raised, and later operated the family farm in Wellesley before serving as a longtime employee at Budd Automotive in Kitchener. Ron lived a life with an emphasis on commitment – to work, marriage, and family. This legacy has passed onto his children and grandchildren who were by his side every hour of his final days. Church was also at the core of Ron’s life as he served in many roles as a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. He spent much of his retirement years enjoying his grandchildren, their time in sports and was always entertaining them with his quick wit and humour.
Ron’s farewell from every family visit was telling his grandchildren he needed to get home to “check on the kids”. This time Grandpa, it’s time to go Home.
Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 1-4 pm. A private celebration of life service and burial in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Cemetery, East Zorra will take place on Monday July 17th.
