Obituary
It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Ronald Gerard Pike announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Sunday. Sept 3, 2023; at the age of 71 years. He was predeceased by his wife Bernadette (McHugh) Pike, his parents Alexander & Margaret (Yetman) Pike and two brothers Ernest (Evelyn) Pike and Robert (Elizabeth) Pike. Ron was a loving family man who’s kind heart touched many. Leaving to mourn with special memories are his children: Paul (Elizabeth) and Christine Dunne (Derrick): grandchildren: Eva, Aaliyah, Emily and Avery and siblings: Claude (Grace) and CarolAnn Weldon (Stuart). Ron also leaves behind his cousin and best hunting buddy Derm Collins (Joan) and cousins Marion Earle (Harry), and Belle Collins. Ron will also be missed by the entire McHugh family with whom he shared a loving connection for so many wonderful years. Special acknowledgement goes out to brother in laws Carl (Linda) and Bern McHugh (Linda), Ann McHugh and many nieces and nephews who were especially kind and generous with their time in later years. including Brian and Michelle McHugh, and Sandra Ryan. The family will long remember so many fun parties with music and dancing as well as camping and fishing trips. Ron was a much loved member of the McHugh family. Ron was a gentle soul with a big heart. He was married for 47 years to his soul mate, the late Bernadette McHugh. Together, they shared a beautiful life in Curling and Corner Brook and her passing in 2022 was difficult for him. Ron worked at the O’Connell Centre for 30 years and was known for his humour, strong work ethic and sharing many stories about his time in the woods. He had a passion for living off the land and would often be found hunting, fishing. picking berries, cooking up a boil up and stacking firewood. He never hesitated to share these things with his family and friends. He loved to go for drives with his family on Lady Slipper Road and explore the backcountry. He loved music and was very proud of his children and their musical gifts. Special thanks are extended to the staff of the Lohnes Complex and Western Memorial Regional Hospital for their care and compassion in his final years. While the grief is heavy, the family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is now free from suffering and reunited with the love of his life, Bernadette in heaven. Cremation has taken place, and a visitation will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home in Corner Brook, September 7, 2023 from the hours of 1:00 – 2:00 Pm from where a funeral service will take place at 2:00 with Father Edward Terry officiating.
