With great sadness, the family of Romeo Barré announces his passing on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Deloraine Regional Health Centre, Deloraine, Manitoba at the age of 85 years following a lengthy battle with illness.
Romeo, affectionately known as “Teeter” by friends and family, is survived by Jeannette, his loving wife of 49 years; daughter Tanya (Ron St. Onge) of Lac du Bonnet; son Aaron (Brittany Bullee) of Deloraine; sister Vivienne (the late Lionel Campbell) of Ottawa; sister-in-law Alice Barré (the late Albert) of Winnipeg; and grandchildren Michael, Shane, Damon, Jacob, Zackery, Lexi, Loken, Raymond, William and Annabell, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Alice Barré (Côté), brothers Albert and Marcel (Geneviève) and sister Cécile (Arlo) Herring.
Born and raised in Belleview, Romeo farmed in the area before retiring and settling with Jeannette in Pipestone for many years before moving to Deloraine in 2020. He was an avid card player at the local drop-in centres, an interested observer at the Pipestone livestock market and an avid sports fan, particularly of the Toronto Blue Jays, and Manitoba curling teams at the Brier and Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Romeo was also well-known for his hearty and distinct laugh, his strength, and his kindness.
Evening Prayer Vigil will take place at Carscadden Funeral Chapel, 383 Wellington St., W., Virden on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 471 Queen St. W., Virden on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Norberto Monton officiating assisted by Deacon Murray Teetaert. Interment will be in Virden Cemetery.
For those who so desire, memorial tributes in memory of Romeo may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 452 Dovercourt Dr. Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4.
