Obituary of Roger Cleroux
It is with much sadness the family of Roger Cleroux of Stratford, PEI announce his sudden passing which occurred peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Born on August 30, 1938 in Vanier, Ontario, Roger was 84 years old. Darling husband of 67 years to his forever sweetheart Florence (nee Hampson) Cleroux. He will be forever loved by his children Rick, Kevin, David (Nathalie), Steven (Bonnie), and Lisa Hartinger (Lee). Cherished grandfather of Tyler, Dorian, Dylan, Christina, Karley, Daniel, Lucas and Tina. Great grandfather of Hendrix. In addition, he will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Roger is survived by his sisters Jeannine and Colombe (Don Richard). Predeceased by his parents Napolean and Aurore Cleroux, brothers Normand (Therese) and Sylvio (Helene), his mother and father-in-law Fred and Vera Hampson, brother-in-law Allan (Eileen), sister-in-law Isabel (Ernie) and daughter-in-law Linda (nee Bigelow) Cleroux.
Roger was a family man, devoted husband and loved spending time with family and friends. Growing up in Ontario, he was a talented athlete who loved playing all sports but excelled at ice hockey. As a 15 year old, he played major junior for several teams including the Hamilton Junior Redwings, the Hull-Volant and the prestigious Montreal Junior Canadians. During these years, he met Florence on a blind date and fell in love at first sight. They were married at the young age of 18 and raised five children whom he adored. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family camping and fishing. Roger was passionate about giving back. He was always the first to step up to coach a little league baseball team or a competitive hockey team. In fact all these years later there are several adults who remember his legacy and positive impact he had on them.
Roger had many job titles throughout his life but his favorite role was being a husband, father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time watching and cheering on his children and grandchildren in all their accomplishments. His was their number one fan and always there to offer love, support and encouragement. Whether he was known as Grandpa or Papa they always felt his presence either watching in person, from afar or virtually. Roger had a great unique sense of humour and could crack up the room. He also had words of wisdom and could teach you a life lesson in one short sentence. He was a strong man. Everyone loved Roger!
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home. There will be a private celebration of life. Interment will take place at a later date.
