Obituary of Robert Wayne Harper
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Wayne Harper must announce his passing on Friday, August 25, 2023. Robert passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital at the age of 79, with his family by his side.
Born in Sackville, NB on May 11, 1944, he was the son of the late Nova Levita (Bennett) and Frederick Cyrus Harper.
Robert was a barber by trade and owned his own shop in Amherst until his retirement. He was a member of the Midgic Baptist Church, as well as a past member of the Kinsman and K-40 Club and the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) where he received his CD Medal. He enjoyed camping with friends and family in the summers and sitting with his friends at McDonalds, passing gossip and getting all the relevant town information. Robert was passionate about his music, playing his stand-up bass, bluegrass, gospel, and country with his friends over the years. Robert loved taking his granddaughter, Alyssa to Dairy Queen which had been a special trip for them since she was a baby. This past summer, when his illness made it more difficult for him to go and do the things he enjoyed, he spent many days out on his porch, talking to anyone who went by. Robert lived his life to the fullest and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Helen Elizabeth “Betty” (MacDonald) Harper; his son, Robert Harper; his daughter, Crystal (Pat Corney); the pride of his life, his granddaughter, Alyssa (Wesley Hatt); his special little nephew, Fred Blair; his step granddaughters, Alanna and Emily; his step great-grandson, Elijah; his father-in-law, Earl MacDonald; his sisters-in-law; his brothers-in-law; his several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as by many friends and acquaintances whom he cared a lot about.
Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters, as well as by his mother-in-law.
Robert’s family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and doctor’s at the Sackville Memorial Hospital for the care they gave to Robert during his stay there.
Funeral and cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Erin Campbell and staff of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Sackville (506) 364-8188. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visiting hours or funeral service.
If so desired, donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Midgic Baptist Church, Sackville Food Bank or to the charity of one’s choice. On-line condolences and sharing of memories may be forwarded to the family through our website www.campbellsfuneralhome.com or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
