Obituary of Robert Thomas Leonard
Leonard, Robert Thomas “Tom” Age 64, Calgary, AB and formerly of Port Hawkesbury, NS, passed away suddenly on December 22, 2022.
Born in Glace Bay, Tom was the third child born to the late Robert “Bob” and Eleanor (MacLean) Leonard. Tom was one of six siblings and enjoyed growing up in a home surrounded by love and laughter where he was taught to hunt and fish by his Dad and came home to homecooked meals prepared everyday by his Mom.
As a youngster, Tom enjoyed many sports, excelling at most, especially hockey, even after developing a heart condition at an early age. A graduate of Port Hawkesbury High School, he had a large circle of friends, was a member of the hockey team, and was widely known to be a bit of a prankster. He attended St. F. X. University for one year before starting his career in Industrial Planning with AECL in Point Tupper. He relocated to the West in the early 1980’s, but always remained a Cape Bretoner in his heart.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Nenette (Javier), Calgary, AB; his faithful companion, Snowbear, who he loved dearly; siblings, Verna Lougheed (Dennis), Claresholm, AB; Karen (Paul) Vickers, Hubley, NS; Keith (Rosita) Leonard, Calgary, AB/Cuba; David Leonard, Claresholm, AB; Eileen (Jamie) MacDonald, Port Hastings, NS; as well as his nieces and nephews: Rob, Laura, Philip, Bradley, Cody, Travis, and niece/Goddaughter, Jennifer.
A memorial service will be held on January 8, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. MST (7:00 p.m. AST), Braeside Community Association, 11024 Braeside Drive SW, Calgary, AB with Pastor Michael Miller officiating. The service will be live streamed on Facebook using the following link or you can search Foundation Baptist Church of Calgary on Facebook. www.facebook.com/groups/293403440700829. A link will also be available on the church website at foundationbaptistchurch.com/ Burial will take place at a later date in Southbrook Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of Tom’s 56-year battle with heart disease.
