Bob loved working with Winnipeg’s most vulnerable residents through his work with Transcona Food Bank and more recently Gifts of Grace providing hot food to those in need. Along with collecting donations from all over the city, Bob helped to direct crews making sandwiches and casseroles, providing food to serve on the street in good weather, and then in Main Street project in the winter months. He especially enjoyed breakfast and a movie on Sunday mornings, where a vote would be held to decide on the movie that would be screened. Even though he had to reduce his workload recently, he was always eager to help out.
Another passion of his, was outdoor art and specifically murals. He painstakingly catalogued every mural in the city on his website, The Murals of Winnipeg. Not only did he appreciate the art but he appreciated the artists and loved the stories behind their work.
He was also devoted to environmental causes as well. He was excited to be an early adopter of the electric car, was an avid recycler and composter, and very reluctant to throw anything out. He famously would wear his clothes until they were threadbare lest he waste anything.
We would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Grace Hospital. Bob really appreciated their care and compassion while he received treatments. Bob would always talk about all the wonderful people he met any time he went.
The Funeral service will be held at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West, on Wednesday June 21st at 2pm. Reception to follow. The service will be livestreamed and can viewed by clicking on the Photos and Videos Tab.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bob’s memory to Main Street Project www.mainstreetproject.ca/donate/monetary-donations or the Grace hospital www.gracehospitalfoundation.ca/general-donations/
