With profound sadness, the family of Bob Williams, 70, announces his passing.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Judy; children Rob, Karen (Steve) and Kerry (Roman); grandchildren Ethan, Emily, William and Joshua; and siblings Darlene (John), Doug and Perry. He was predeceased by many loved ones.
Bob was a West End legend who raised his family in the neighbourhood, instilling in them a sense of pride about committing to their community and what it takes to be a good person. His upbringing was challenging, but wanted his children to have a better life, and he succeeded. Judy (née Routh) steered him in the proper direction. He found joy and satisfaction in volunteerism as a Cub Scout leader, a hockey coach and manager and in many activities at Orioles Community Centre.
Bob and Judy’s house on Lipton Street was the epicentre of chaos and activity while the children were growing up, with a constant stream of friends coming and going. He even ran his own Blockbuster out of the family living room and would lend out movies (for free), making sure everyone wrote their name in a binder and brought them back. The comments online can attest to what an impact the Williams household had. Everyone was welcome. Everyone has a memory about Bob. He was full of personality and tattoos, and sported a moustache he would never shave.
Bob had a quick wit and a sharp memory. He had some hearing loss, which meant things didn’t always register properly, providing a bit of amusement for the kids and a source of frustration for Judy. He enjoyed games, puzzles, crosswords, chess, movies, music, western novels and spending time with his grandchildren (he loved his grandchildren more than anything). In his younger days he liked camping, family road trips to places such as the Rocky Mountains and Valley Fair (he was a thrill seeker), renting cabins and a cold Labatt Blue. C.O.P.D. slowed him down later in life, but he remained a collector of comics, hockey cards, pins and coins.
Bob and Judy had a love like no other. They started dating when they were 15 years old and celebrated their 50th wedding celebration in January. Bob’s last wish was to make it to Judy’s 70th birthday in February.
According to Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. The family has held a private celebration of his life.
We would like to thank everyone for their love and support.
