Rick passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on July 8, 2023 at age 61 after a heroic struggle with pancreatic cancer. Rick was the devoted and loving husband of Cathy Deen and caring father of Matthew McMaster.
Much loved son of Stuart (deceased) and Beth McMaster. Dear brother of Kim McLeod (Earl) of Millbrook and Brent McMaster(Carey) of Bancroft.
Step Father of Melissa(Trevor Frith), Cassandra(Noah Bucholtz). Grandfather to Collins Frith. Dear brother-in-law to Robert Deen(Carol),Scott Deen(Christine), Berna Deen( John), Donna Scofield(Alex) Karen St. Godard(Norm). Rick will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Rick grew up in Selwyn Township. He attended Lindsay Highway and Chemong Public Schools and Crestwood High School. He joined the Armed Forces and served for 4 years in the Princess Patricia Light Infantry and in the Navy. He later graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Rick went on to become an Internet Technology Professional and worked as an instructor at Oxford College specializing in Cisco software certification. More recently he used his IT skills installing and maintaining computers for various local and international companies.
Rick’s happiest memories included summers at the family cottage in Bancroft, winters on a snowmobile, years of hockey and football and many adventures in the Armed Forces. Inspired by his parents, Rick had a great love and appreciation of theatre. He enjoyed nature and the garden. He and his wife Cathy travelled extensively, even as his health declined.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors of ICU and the Palliative Care Unit at the PRHC. A special thank you to Dr. Colin Matheson, Dr. Laura MacMillan-Jones for their compassion and kindness. A special thank you also to Dr Joan Dafoe.

A private celebration of life will be held followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery in Lakefield.
