It is with great sadness that we announce Rick’s passing after a very short battle with cancer. His wife Irene, daughter Lisa (and Luke), daughter-in-law Shannon (and Grant) and grandchildren Adiel, Salem, Aleah, and Gideon will all dearly miss him along with many other family members and friends.
Rick was born in Chilliwack and grew up in Yarrow. However, after a couple years in Vancouver Rick and Irene moved away from the lower mainland and Rick pursued a career in Forestry. This eventually led to them moving to Grand Forks where they expanded their family to include children Lisa and Aaron.
In 1989, along with his family, Rick moved to Tanzania with MCC for 3 years to help communities in rural areas improve their drinking water supply. He believed strongly in helping others who were disadvantaged.
When he returned to Canada Rick got involved with Habitat for Humanity and continued on his mission helping people, this time building affordable housing. One of his most significant projects was to build a multiplex housing unit for people living with disabilities.
Rick enjoyed many other pursuits including fishing and hunting, motorcycling, and travelled to many parts of the world. Wood working was a favourite pastime and he created many beautiful pieces that will be cherished by his family for years to come.
A celebration of life will be held on the 5th of February at the Yarrow Community Centre at 3pm.
