Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Raymond Rupert Haywood, age 83, on July 18, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. He was the son of the late Helen (Carr) and Hilton Haywood of Guysborough, Nova Scotia. Raymond was the loving husband to his late wife Bernice (Ehler) Haywood. He was a caring and devoted father to Richard and Gregory (Alice) Haywood and the proud grandfather to Wyatt and Hilton.
Raymond will be fondly remembered in the hearts of his siblings, brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews. He is survived by brothers Ross and Thomas (Darlene); sisters, Mary (Harold) Chisholm, Lorraine (Bryce) Sanford, Diane (Wayne) Decoste; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia (Bill) Canty; brothers, Mel Haywood, Howard (Josephine) Haywood, Ernest (Bonnie) Haywood, Carl (Susan) Haywood, Cyril (Barb) Haywood, and Samuel Haywood; nieces, Paula Chisholm, Wendy Chisholm; nephews, Chad (Tonya) Haywood, Nathaniel Haywood and Joseph Eggstaff, and Raymond’s sister in-law, Norah (Ross) Haywood.
Raymond grew up in Guysborough Nova Scotia and was the middle of 13 children. He raised his family in Hamilton, Ontario. After retiring, Raymond and his wife Bernice returned to Guysborough to pursue a quieter life close to nature and family. Raymond loved the outdoors and enjoyed his favourite pastimes of hunting and fishing with his family.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, where the Liturgy of the Word will take place at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.
An additional funeral and burial service will also take place in Nova Scotia at a later date to be determined.
