Obituary
Rae Hudson Matchett, 88 years of age of Moncton N.B., passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on March 8, 2023.
Born in Newcastle NB, he was the son of the late Matilda Breau Matchett of Covedell, NB and Edward Matchett of Red Bank, NB.
In his younger years Rae served with the 28th Field BTY, Field Regiment-Miramichi and 113 Coy.
Rae worked for and retired from CN Rail with 46 and ½ year service, with his last position being held a Special Commodities Officer – Maritime District.
He Served as a volunteer fire fighter with the Moncton Fire Department Hook & Ladder Company for 35 years.
Rae was a past president of the Moncton Lions Club; a member of the Beausejour Curling Club and served as the National Secretary Treasurer with the Canadian Fire Fighters Curling Association.
He was also a member of the Masonic Order 32nd Degree Mason with 50 years of service.
Rae and his wife were long standing members of St. George’s Anglican Church.
Rae was the loving husband to his late wife Janet, a father, a grandfather and a great grandfather. He enjoyed many years spent working on his own built summer camp, wintering in Mesa Arizona for many years with Janet, curling, golfing and family. He will be so sadly missed by his daughters Diana Stokes (Thayne) of Riverview, NB, Kelly Arsenault (Kevin) of Calgary, AB, and Stephanie Arsenault (Todd) of Moncton, NB, Grandchildren Scott, Ryan, Sean & Erin as well as great grandchildren Zoe, Jude and James, along with his sister Isabel Gauthier of Edmonton, AB.
Rae’s family thank all who cared for him in his later days….all the staff on Unit 5200 of the Moncton Hospital, Dr Gormley, and Dr Wessen.
A service to celebrate Rae’s life will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 51 Church St. Moncton, NB, on Tuesday, March 14 at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Chris VanBuskirk officiating. Interment will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
