Queenie Rusenstrom
It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of her at Extendicare on June 16th, 2023 at the age of 100. Dearest mother to David (Mary Ann), Chris Pronovost (Luc) and Wendy Collins ( Ronda). Cherished grandmother to Laura , Mathew and Bradley Pronovost( Jane). Predeceased by her loving husband Weldon and grandson Dean Collins.
Queenie was born in Moncton New Brunswick and moved to Timmins to follow her husband Weldon. She often said that when she got off the train, in 1944, and looked down Third Ave. all she thought of was “ what did I get myself into”. That opinion soon changed and she grew to love Timmins and often told people it was the best place to live.
Although a stay at home mom, she was deeply involved in the community. A member of the Nativity Ladies Axillary and Kinette Club.
She also took a great interest in the Developmentally handicapped and worked diligently at getting them involved in the Special Olympics as well as integrating them into community activities. In later years she was on the Committee of Adjustments for the City of Timmins and
a member of the Bridge Club.
She most enjoyed the summers out at the cottage at Little Star where she would get in her boat and spend hours fishing.
Queenie always said she had a full and happy life and was always so grateful for what she had and appreciated all the great people she came to know and love in Timmins.
The family would like to thank all and nurses, PSWs and doctors at Extendicare for all the care and compassion that they provided to her. She always expressed her thankfulness for being on “ Pearl Lake” and appreciated all that was done for her.
Cremation has taken place and the family will hold a private service at a later date.
Remembrance Donations to The House of Kin in Sudbury would be greatly appreciated.
