Our family is heartbroken to announce that Peter passed away at Ridge Meadows Hospital, on January 13, 2023, at the age of 89. Peter was predeceased by his mother and father, Sarah and Sam Kane, his sister Mary and his brother Alan. He is survived by his wife of 66 years Pat, sister Eileen, son Philip, daughter Alison, son-in-law John and grandchildren David, Laura and Tom.
Peter was born in Coulsdon, Surrey, England. After serving in the army, Peter trained to be a Psychiatric Nurse. In 1966, Peter sought employment in British Columbia. He worked at both Riverview Hospital and the Forensic Psychiatric Institute, until he retired in 1997.
After retiring, Peter went flyfishing and worked in the garden. In 2003, he joined the Legion at Branch No. 88 (Maple Ridge). Peter served on the Executive Committee for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed conducting Legion business and working with other Legion members. Peter read voraciously, especially about World War II and Winston Churchill. He was a knowledgeable gardener and loved to grow roses.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at both the Royal Columbian Hospital and Ridge Meadows Hospital, for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on March 11, at Haney Presbyterian Church, 11858 216 Street, Maple Ridge.
Legion members are invited to attend an Honour Guard Ceremony for Peter, at Branch No. 88 on February 25, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Royal Canadian Legion Foundation – BC/Yukon Command.
