THORPE, Peter. May 6, 1943- June 3rd, 2023
Peter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and community member passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 80. Peter positively impacted the lives of many people both personally and professionally. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in all of those who loved and respected him: his wife of 24 years Annabel, her son Alan (Filomena), her daughter Michelle (Jay), his former wife of 30 years Clare and their two daughters, Jenny (Steve), Julie (Stephen) and his late son Rob (Roshelle).
Peter lives on in his eleven grandchildren (Abby, Brooke, Colin, Gabriel, Jaxon, Joshua, Juno, Matthew, Melissa, Rylee, and Sydney) who will miss his wisdom and humour but who are thankful for the many beautiful memories with Peter and Annabel, their loving grandparents.
Peter’s brother, David, and his lifelong best friend Dave Cohen and their families, among others too numerous to list here, will also miss him dearly.
Peter had a very successful and fulfilling 28 year career in Leadership and Management Development Training at IBM UK and Canada where he earned the respect of his colleagues for his wisdom and interpersonal skills. He was also an active member of his community, generously volunteering his time and giving back in a multitude of ways which benefited the lives of many.
Peter had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest; he will be remembered for his lifelong love of music, golf, tennis, and walking in nature. These activities kept him active and healthy despite 65 years of managing Type 1 Diabetes with courage and resilience. In lieu of flowers, Peter requested that donations be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. A celebration of life will be held at the Dalewood Golf and Country Club in Port Hope on June 28th from 2-4pm. In honour of Peter, we will share stories, listen to music and enjoy some snacks (of course including chocolate chip cookies which he loved so much).
