Obituary of Paul Chief
Paul Edward Chief passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, February 23, 2023 at the age of 81 years.
Paul was born in Onion Lake, Saskatchewan on January 10, 1942 to Robert and Mary Chief (nee Crookedneck). Paul’s first job was as a bus driver, which he continued to do for 13 years. When he first started, this meant driving a horse and buggy to pick up the kids and he would sing songs with them on the way to school. Later on, he loved to fill the bus with people and take them on the Round Dance Trail. Paul had various other jobs in his life which included: working for farmers in the area, owning his own medical taxi, which allowed him to be self-employed, and one of his last jobs was working in a wood mill. Paul also served as a councilor for the nation.
Paul loved to travel and he took his family on many memorable trips, right up until his passing. He was incredibly humble and all about unconditional love. He welcomed everyone into his circle. At one point he had a visitor who asked him how to do his will. Paul said “I’m not going to do my will!! I’m going to take everything…what I’m leaving behind is love!”
Paul is survived by: his children, Paula (Evan), Rita, Jeff (Burton), Darin, Colleen, Trina (Jason), Valerie, Janet, Janice and Shawn Naistus (Sunora), Conrad Jones, Rosa (Steven) Lewis, Loretta Jimmy and Katryna Smith; his cicims (grandchildren), Leland (Raven), Ashley (Colin), Katelyn, Danielle (Colan), Brett, Terran, Jaeden (Quin), Bryton, Laremy, Taneya, Kîsikaw Pîsim, Truman (Edith), Kyle (Janice), Nashton, Mckayla, Morgan, Mason, Credence and Animikii; his chapan’s (great grandchildren), Ellie, Talon, Noah, Melina, Suraya, Taven, Madison, Chloe, Jaelyn, Chandler, Leah, Benjamin, Kingsley, Karson, Jaeleigh, Nelani, Leighton, Quaelin and Lily; sister, Valerie Paul; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
