Paul Phillip Santuci
May 7, 1930 – January 1, 2023
Mr. Paul Santuci, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Born to parents Joseph and Mary Santucci on May 7, 1930, Paul was the eldest and only son of four children. He grew up in the east end on McLauglin Street with his parents and three sisters; Dorothy (Peristy), Eleanor (Gal) and Florence (Mullo). Paul worked in his younger years on the tugboats with his uncle, Captain John Kruppa. Later, he worked at Great Lakes Paper Mill in the forklift and paper rolls department until his retirement.
He liked to fish and hunt small game with his father at camp on Hawkeye Lake and surrounding areas. He was a huge fan of collecting and driving Cadillac cars. He enjoyed being out in the yard pruning, planting and taking care of the rest. Paul enjoyed listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash. Another of his best was Mario Lanza. He loved watching old western movies with Randel Scott and John Wayne, who were his favorite actors. A faithful Catholic church goer, he attended every Sunday Mass at St. Dominic’s Church.
Paul drove many trips to the most famous landmarks in many cities of the USA with his wife Eva. They travelled from Thunder Bay to the Mexican border and west coast, and along every USA highway west of Thunder Bay. They occasionally went to casinos across the border and in Canada with friends or just the two of them.
Paul is predeceased by his parents, sisters Dorothy Peristy and Florence Mullo, two brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, as well as his wife Eva Henrich in 2015. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Gal and children Julianna, Leonard and Patricia, sister-in-law Thelma Heinrich, cousins of the Pohorly, Bolger, and LeBlanc families, numerous nieces and nephews, the Persistys, Joe & Bev, the Gals, and the Mullos, Eric and Marc.
Special thanks to Chartwell Isabella staff and workers who took terrific care of Paul. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation (palliative care and hospice), St. Dominic’s Church, or Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.
