Peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, on Wednesday August 23rd, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, Patrick McGivern of Chatham passed away in his 82nd year. Cherished son of the late John and Rose McGivern. Beloved husband and best friend of 64 years, Leona (Demers). Loving father of Terry McGivern (Linda), Tammy McGivern, Shelley Howard (Ron), Todd McGivern (Colleen), Chris McGivern, and Leo McGivern. Proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Dear brother of Johnny McGivern, Rosemarie Johnston (John), Theresa MacDonald (Mike), and Bernadette Moor (Brent). Survived by sisters-in-law Rita McGivern and Laura McGivern and brother-in-law Neil Seney. Predeceased by siblings Mary Seney, Mike McGivern (Rita), Hugh McGivern, Francis McGivern and daughter-in-law Debbie McGivern.
Patrick was employed with Union Gas as a serviceman for 37 years, retiring in 1998. He had an impressive ability to recall first and last names of people dating back to his childhood. He loved to tell jokes and was a great storyteller. He loved his family more than anything else and was known as the “Fixer” for his problem-solving skills.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the following people/organizations who helped to make the unbearable, bearable: Dr. Jason Denys, Dr. Anil Dhar (Windsor), Mary Beth, RN (VON), Dawn, RN (VON), Erin Isbell, RN (Home And Community Care Support Services Coordinator/Case Manager), Motion Specialties, ProResp, Chatham-Kent Hospice and staff especially, Sally, Clair, Mike, Sue, Lola, Olivia and Bridget.
Cremation has taken place. Interment Maple Leaf Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham, 519-352-2710.
