Obituary
PATRICIA LOUISE FRASER (NEUMANN)
April 15, 1952 – July 4, 2023
Patricia (Pat) passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 4th, 2023. Pat was born in Deloraine and raised in nearby Waskada, Manitoba. Pat is survived by her husband Harry Fraser, daughter Danielle (Trish), grandchildren Hayden, Skyler, Spencer, Kiera and Hannah (Alex), sisters Lyn (Barry), Betty (Gil), and Joan (Don), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Pat was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Henry, and brothers George, Charlie (survived by Bev), Bob (survived by Joan B) and Jim (survived by Shirley). After meeting (and later marrying) her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Pat obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the Brandon University, and then her Master of Arts (Economics) from the University of Calgary. Pat worked for eight years as an economist with the governments of British Columbia and the Yukon, meeting several lifelong friends in those locales, before starting law school at the University of Manitoba in 1984. Pat chose to become a lawyer so that she, Harry, and three year old Danielle could return to living in Manitoba near extended family. She was rewarded for her efforts in law school by winning multiple class awards in each year, culminating with receipt of the gold medal for highest achievement in her law school class. She was subsequently articled with Meighen Haddad and became the first female partner in the firm’s history in 1993. Pat remained an active partner at Meighen Haddad until her retirement in 2017, as well as volunteering in the community on various boards. Although her academic and professional achievements were impressive on their own, it was Pat’s strength and generosity of spirit which endeared her to all. Pat left an impact upon everyone she encountered, however briefly. She was adored by and deeply loved her family; she was a conscientious mentor to enumerable colleagues and junior lawyers; she was a caring friend, always remembering anniversaries and birthdays. Pat’s husband, daughter, daughter-in-law and grandchildren meant the world to her, and she had no greater joy than spending time with each of them. The hole that will be left in the hearts of those who knew her well can never be filled, and they can only try to live their lives in her memory and to live as she lived – experiencing every moment with true joy. She will forever be missed.
There will a Celebration of Life in Pat’s memory on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at “The Firehall” in Brandon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or to the Pat Fraser Memorial Scholarship (details to be available at the Celebration of Life or at danielle@dfraserlaw.ca)
