It is with heavy hearts that the family of Orval Newton announce his passing on Sunday, March 19, 2023 , in his 76th year from the long term effects of Parkinson’s disease.
Loving father to Debbie (Zane) and Richard.
Proud Popa to Hailey and Joey.
Dear brother of Judy (Tony) and Wayne (Paula).
Uncle to Niles, Vanessa, Serena and Travis.
Fondly remembered by aunts and uncles from the Alban- French River Area.
He was known to many at Ontario Hydro (1970’s), Parry Sound Children’s Aid Society (1980’s ) and HANDS the Family Health Network (1990’s).
Orval was born in Parry Sound and from the age of four he was raised by his grandmother. Orval completed his high school diploma by correspondence while working in the bush with Ontario Hydro in his teenage years. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Social Work at Laurentian University. Early placements with children drew him to working in Infant Development. It was a career he loved. A 26-year career as an infant-parent therapist with what was then Algonquin Child and Family Services- now known as HANDS the Family Network. He saw generations grow up in the Parry Sound area and he loved to run into clients around the community.
Orval enjoyed camping, fishing, canoeing, cross country skiing, cars, photography, traveling- especially to the East Coast, trains, and walking his miniature schnauzers. He LOVED live music, playing his fiddle and guitar- A highlight in his later years was shaking Willie Nelson’s hand at a concert!
Orval’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Belvedere Heights in Parry Sound.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer at the French River.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Parry Sound Forest School , HANDS Autism Program or Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated.
