Orent’s Obituary
Wood, Orent Christopher – 80, Oxford, passed away on April 9th, 2023 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born in Oxford, he was a son of the late Harry and Helen (Myatt) Wood. Orent began his working career with the Royal Bank of Canada and eventually worked in the oil industry mainly with D.W. Thompson Esso from where he retired. Orent loved being outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, camping or more recently 4 wheeling. Orent enjoyed playing baseball when was young and slow pitch later on; he was a great home run hitter and usually played 3rd base, which he called the “hot corner”. He enjoyed a good card game and appreciated a good competitive opponent. After retirement Orent and Elizabeth spent many winters vacationing in Lakeland, Florida. He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth VanBuskirk; daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Hennick, Stellarton; Lorraine (Paul) MacLean, Pictou; grandchildren, Cole, Brandi, Brooke and Brittney; brothers, Delbert (Jill), Grimsby, ON; Cyril, Kelowna, BC; uncle, Calvin Myatt, Comox, BC; nieces and nephews, Suzan, Stephanie, Pam, Harry, Robbie and Shauna. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, April 13 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford.
