Obituary
Obediah (Obe) James Troke passed away peacefully at the Golden Years Estate on September 4, 2023 at 95 years young.
Predeceased by his parents Hezekiah and Esther-Jane Troke and his niece Merita Kelly.
Left to celebrate his life are his brother Cyril (Clara), niece Rose (David), great nieces and nephews Terri (Nathan), Jennifer, Krista, Michael, Shannon (Stephanie), and Brandon (Lindsay), great great nieces and nephews Paige, Ethan, Noah, Benjamin, and Rebecca Lynn, and countless friends. The family thanks the Golden Years Estate for providing him with great care, good company, and the best food in his final months.
Obe grew up in Salvage with his parents and brother Cyril. In his younger years, he worked on fishing boats and as a carpenter, travelling all over Newfoundland. He used his carpenter skills to help build the home that he shared with his niece Merita and her family in Grand Falls-Windsor for almost 40 years, where he quickly became a beloved part of the family. Obe was a social butterfly, an unofficial weatherman, a second dad, a secret dog lover, a free hat collector, and an avid wood cutter who always kept the fire going. His presence will forever be missed. As Obe always said, ‘I got no news, so good night to you.’
