Obituary
Norrean Hellen Johnson (Pearson) passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Ponoka General Hospital on May 14, 2023, at the age of 96 years. Norrean was born on January 3, 1927, to Otto and Sarah Pearson. Norrean was the third born of four children and together they grew up in Wilmont area until she met the love her life, Reginald. They married on March 18, 1945, and resided in Ponoka where they raised their family. Mom worked ten years at various jobs in downtown Ponoka and then decided to return to the Alberta Hospital where she had worked for four years before the arrival of her daughter. Mom continued to work at AHP in Ponoka until 1990, retiring at the ages of 63 years. In the fall of 1990 dad and mom headed south with the motor home to Apache Junction, Arizona; they lived in it for a few winters; then they purchased an older park model which they really enjoyed driving back and forth with their van for the next ten years. Once they could no longer go south, they wintered in Osoyoos, British Columbia for a few years.
When they finally decided to stay home in Ponoka for their winters, mom became very busy volunteering at the Legion, Meals on Wheel, United Church, and Royal Purple. Mom enjoyed her crib nights and singing with the Sunshine Singers. Right up until mom had her stroke at age 85, she still drove her car, baked weekly, canned pickles and jams, and of course attended garage sales. Most of her grandchildren have cuddled up to one of her soft quilts and a sack monkey or teddy bear that she made. Mom loved her family very much and was always there to give a helping hand or whatever she could do to help.
Norrean will be missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Wendy (Darrel) Humphreys; her sons Terry (Rose) Johnson and Barry Johnson; her grandchildren Darrnelle Humphreys, Sheldon Humphreys, Ricky Johnson, Travis Johnson; her many great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Gladys Johnson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Norrean was predeceased by her husband Reginald; grandson Trent Johnson; daughter-in-law Laurie Mielke; her sisters Edith and Mildred; and her brother Frank.
Norrean’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Northcott Care Centre for the kind, loving, and compassionate care given to mom over the past few years and in her final days. We would also like to thank Wombold Family Funeral homes for all their support and kindness during this difficult time.
Memorial donations, in Norrean’s name, are gratefully accepted to Ponoka Wheelchair Van or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #66, Ponoka.
A Family Service, for Norrean, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Ponoka Funeral Home with Interment Service to follow at the Forest Home Cemetery. A light luncheon to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion in Ponoka.
