It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Norman Pelino Gentile on Friday June 2,2023 in the Palliative Care Unit at the CHUM. He leaves in mourning his partner and best-friend Rosemary Byrne and his children; Andrew (Sarah Bruens), Jennifer (Nicola Maucieri) and his step-daughter Winnifred Hunter (Nils Tilton). Norman will be missed by his grandchildren; Nicholas and Jason Maucieri, Abigail, Logan and Dakota Bruens-Gentile, and Enora Tilton. Born in Corfinio Italy, to Maria Clementi and Ernesto Gentile, he immigrated to Canada in 1952. Norman is survived by his brothers Enzo (Sylvia) and Luciano (Joan) and many nieces and nephews.
Norman was a graduate of Loyola College (Concordia University). He worked in and around the construction industry. He was a man of many interests, passions and talents. A fabulous cook and baker, he was also a charming host. Norman was a voracious reader; his library was an eclectic mixture of theology, philosophy, history and literature. His musical tastes ranged from opera to rock and roll. Norman loved to paint and sketch. But running was his greatest passion and solace; he completed several marathons and ran half-marathons well into his 70’s. He received exceptional care from Dr Catherine Vincent and her team at the CHUM, for which the family is grateful. A kind and generous man, Norman will be remembered with fondness and great respect by a host of friends, colleagues, clients and neighbours.
As per his request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday June 23, 2023 at 14:00 at Yves Legaré funeral complex : 7200, Newman Blvd in Lasalle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Welcome Hall Mission or to A Horse tale Rescue, 27 chemin Murphy, Vaudreuil -Dorion, Qc J7V 8P2
