Obituary of Norine Ruth Small (nee Couse)
Norine Ruth (née Couse) Small, formerly of St. Thomas, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at Beattie Manor, Wardsville on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at the age of 94. Survived by five children; Sharon Baker (Rick), Mary Jo Lay (Garry), Nancy Small, William Small, Tom Small, and one sister, Mary Jones. She will be dearly missed by 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who were a great joy to her. Also remembered by several nieces and nephews, and their families. Predeceased by her son, Daniel Russell Small, the father of her children, Edward Small, five brothers, Peter, William, John, George, and Charles Couse, one sister, Doris Fellows, and in-laws, Dorothy Small, Marjorie Couse, Joe Fellows, and Lyle Jones.
Norine was born in St. Thomas on November 1, 1928, to Albert and Ruth (née Emery) Couse. An ardent Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan, she enjoyed keeping up with news, growing her flowers and vegetables, and being part of friendly, helpful neighbourhoods.
In keeping with Norine’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the Canadian Red Cross. Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
