Muriel Marie Pateman of Green Falls Landing, Regina, and formerly Rocanville, SK, passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the age of 91 years. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Hartley; parents Alexander and Mary Ann McCormick; sisters Blanche (George) Zaran, Roberta (Gordon) Twist, Margaret (Peter) Shalovelo, brother Charles (Joan) McCormick, half-brothers Alexander, Donald and Lawrence McDonald. Muriel is survived by sons Blair (Lorie) of Weyburn; grandchildren Carla (Luke) and great-granddaughter Ada of Emerald Park, SK; Stephanie of Kelowna, BC; and Brad (Twyla), grandchildren Hayley (Evan) of Burnaby, BC and Cameron of Regina. She also leaves to mourn her sister Edith (Henry deceased) Klatt, sister in-law Evelyne Brennand, cousin Rusty McCormick along with nieces and nephews.
Muriel was born February 15, 1931, the second of six children at St. Andrew’s colony near Wapella, SK. She attended school in Wapella before quitting in Grade 10 to work; it was while working at the general store, she met Hartley Pateman. On September 27, 1952 she married her true love at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage living in Wapella, SK; Basswood, MB; Alameda, SK and Rocanville, SK.
Muriel believed she was put on this earth to serve. As wife to Hartley and mother to sons Blair and Brad, caring for her family was paramount. Muriel was hard-working, efficient, an immaculate housekeeper and more than willing to work at whatever community event in which her family was involved.
Later, nothing pleased her more than the time she spent with her grandchildren and more recently her cherished great-granddaughter. She was proud of them all. Beyond her immediate family, she held dear, close relationships with her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her sister, Edie, continued to be her most frequent companion in recent months. She cared deeply for her extended family in Rocanville, across the street and beyond. In the community Muriel was generous with her time, her finances, and her praise. She baked many delicious pies and always had a Rice Krispie cake on hand in case it was needed somewhere. She volunteered at the Rocanville Thrift Store for nearly 20 years. Muriel treasured the time she lived in Alameda and Rocanville and the life-long friends she made along the way. She especially enjoyed the Rocanville happy hour in the garage with the door open to welcome friends or whoever happened to be walking by. She was an avid curling fan and a devout Roman Catholic whose church community was also very important to her.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by family and friends. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Moosomin & District Health Care Foundation for the Southeast Integrated Care Centre, in memory of Muriel.
Graveside service will be held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Wapella, Saskatchewan Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Franklin Emereuwa officiating.
