MISSAL, Martha
January 14, 1932 — April 14, 2023
Born on January 14, 1932, in Leduc, Alberta, Martha went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 14, 2023, in Kelowna, British Columbia. She now joins her beloved husband Alfred (Fred) who passed away in 1917.
She was dearly loved and will be remembered by her daughters, Joy Johnston (James), and Karen Forsberg (Jerel); by her grandchildren, Brett Forsberg (Amy), Chelsey Froberg (Bryce), Kirsten Forsberg (Nick), Gwen Johnston (PJ); and by her great-grandchildren, Witton and Rowyn Froberg. She is survived by her sister Gladys Kort.
Martha grew up on a farm in Minitonas, Manitoba with her five siblings, and after graduating from high school she left for Winnipeg to pursue a nursing career. There she met and married her love, Fred, in 1957. She worked as an RN for many years in Winnipeg, Toronto, and lastly in Kelowna at Cottonwoods Extended Care when it first opened until she retired from her evening supervisory position at the age of 60. She loved nursing, and those that worked with her knew her as a kind and compassionate person. Family was important to Martha, and she was a devoted Mom and Oma, babysitting her grandchildren for many years, so her daughters could also pursue their careers as nurses.
Martha loved to sew and was a very good seamstress, sewing most of her clothes. She was often called upon by her granddaughters to mend their clothes. Gardening was her passion, and she spent many happy days puttering around in her flower garden. She had an incredible green thumb, bringing many a sad plant to life again. She touched many lives with her sweet disposition, her smile and caring ways. She felt blessed to have had such a full life.
Martha’s daughters are very grateful to the staff at Spring Valley Seniors Home for the wonderful care they gave Martha over the last 20 months.
A private family interment will be held in the future, where Martha and Alfred will be laid to rest together.
